High-End Basement Renovation

Project Description: This grand mansion located on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell included approximately 3,000 square feet of mostly unfinished basement, which was being wasted as a storage warehouse. With the homeowner's tastes in mind, we finished 2,800 square feet of basement transforming this storage container into dramatically ornate living space appropriate for upscale entertaining.

The few existing sheetrock walls were removed to expand the large great room allowing each designated area to flow into the next. The great room's areas, including an office nook, wet bar, living room, and hallway, were segmented with the installation of faux marble columns placed strategically throughout. The existing basement ceiling in this main area was 10-ft. high and would have been appropriate for an industrial look; but, the homeowners preferred a cozy, warm environment such as one would find in an Italian villa. To lower the ceilings while maintaining an elevated focal point, dramatic coffered ceilings were constructed, and arched openings, columns, and curved soffits replaced unfinished wall studs and beams. The warm, cozy appeal in the great room was reinforced with faux paint finish on the walls in a rich, neutral tone to complement the custom wood cabinetry of the wet bar, desk, offset billiard room, and furniture-grade bathroom vanity, as well as the stone flooring tiles, stone hearth, and decorative textured carpeting.

Directly off of the great room, the basement includes a billiard room with hardwood flooring and wainscoting and exposed wood ceiling beams all stained in a rich, ruddy mahogany. Walls and ceiling are painted a spicy, tomato red. An exercise room includes black-painted ceiling and trim to complement the tawny-colored walls. Adjacent to this is a full bathroom room with dappled, brown ocher walls, a stone-tiled, steam shower large enough for two, and a furniture-grade, custom vanity sink with an onyx granite top.

This newly renovated living space provides this grand home with great entertainment possibilities, an inviting retreat with a beautiful panorama of the river's landscape, and efficient storage containment.
